When brilliance meets boldness, greatness follows. Such was the case for Mr. Hanz Redoma of the City College of Calapan – Institute of Education, who emerged as First Runner-Up with only 0.36 point difference and secured the prestigious Best in Video Introduction award at the highly anticipated CBRC National Teacher Education Quiz Bee at San Andres Sports Complex Malate Manila, May 16. The said competition was attended and participated by 111 schools around the country.

The journey to the top was no easy climb. The competition, hosted by the Carl Balita Review Center (CBRC) with the theme: Challenging Boundaries Revolutionizing Competencies with AI, gathered 111 most promising education students from across the country — a true intellectual battleground.

The day began with the Showdown Skills Competition, an engaging morning segment that set the stage for what would become an afternoon of excellence. Contestants were given 30 minutes to complete and submit each output, which had to demonstrate both creativity and originality, qualities essential in an era where AI is not just a tool but a catalyst for innovation. Rather than rejecting AI, the challenge pushed participants to thoughtfully integrate it, proving their capacity to harness its potential without becoming dependent on it. They were tasked to craft effective prompts, design well-organized and visually compelling infographics, and produce outputs that reflected critical thinking and personal insight.

By afternoon, all eyes turned to the grand quiz bee. Behind Hanz stood an entire force — his coach Ma'am Nicka Mercado, faculty members, mentors, and fellow City Collegian who became his pillars. Structured in three grueling rounds — Easy, Average, and Difficult — the quiz bee tested the depth, speed, and stamina of each participant’s knowledge. With every round, Hanz powered through with sharp logic, steady nerves, and an unmistakable fire in his eyes. Every correct answer was not just his alone, it was a triumph shared by a community that stood hand-in-hand, hearts lifted in hope.

His Best in Video Introduction award further elevated his triumph. With a stunning and heartfelt presentation, Hanz introduced himself not just as a participant, but as a passionate future educator. His video captured the essence of his mission which is to teach, to inspire, and to lead. The judges were moved. The audience was impressed. The message was clear Hanz Redoma is a name to remember.

As he stood on stage, bathed in applause and pride, Mr. Redoma became more than a competitor. He became a beacon, a shining example of what Mindoreños and MIMAROPA students can achieve when talent, passion, and purpose come together. His victory is not the end but the beginning of a legacy. And for the City College of Calapan, Institute of Education, that legacy burns brighter than ever.
