City Collegians Test Wits and Words in Impromptu Speech

Six city collegians showcased their communication skills in the Impromptu Speaking Competition during the English Day 2026 celebration. BSNED’s Valenton, Leus secured the championship, followed by BPA’s Templanza, Tiona Mae and BSIS’ Manhic, Stephany.

The competition challenged participants to think on their feet as they delivered speeches based on questions centered on effective communication.

BSIS representative opened the competition with a 2:54-minute speech, followed by BLIS representative, who tackled, “Can words really inspire people to create positive change?” in 2:56 minutes.

BSEd Math representative answered, “Can we truly connect with others without effective communication?” and delivered a 5:10-minute speech, while BSTM representative discussed whether social media is improving or weakening communication skills in 4:30 minutes.

BPA representative addressed, “Why does body language matter when communicating with others?” in 4:23 minutes, while BSNED representative concluded the competition with, “How can effective communication prevent misunderstandings and conflicts?” in 4:53 minutes.

After the final presentations, the winners were recognized, with Valenton, Leus of BSNED taking first place, Templanza, Tiona Mae of BPA securing second, and Manhic, Stephany of BSIS placing third.

The competition highlighted the participants’ ability to think critically, speak confidently, and communicate their ideas effectively under pressure.
